Motivational Contact Programs for Talented School Students of Punjab

PSCST organized 12  ‘Motivational Program and Impact Assessment for Talented School Students of Punjab’ in Punjab/Chandigarh during 2014-16. 

The Council organized these programs in Punjabi University, Patiala, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Panjab University, Chandigarh, Central University, Bathinda as well as covered several R&D Institutes viz. CSIO, INST, NABI and CGC. 363 meritorious matriculate students from all districts of Punjab were selected for the program and they were taken to different science departments, laboratories and museums of the Universities and R&D institutes of Punjab & Chandigarh for five days to encourage them to pursue careers in S&T. They were also made to interact with eminent scientists. One day in each of the 12 programs was reserved for excursion-cum-educational trip to Pushpa Gujral Science City. A career counseling session was also organized during the last day of each program to educate the participating students about various career options available in the field of basic/applied sciences. 

Further, impact assessment of the program was carried out through four structured questionnaires, three meant for participants (363 students from medical and non-medical streams) and one for the Contact Scientists/Teachers. 98% students felt that program was very interesting and increased their knowledge pertaining to advanced science equipments, functioning of instruments and research methods.
