National Green Corps Program

PSCST is the nodal agency for implementation of National Green Corps (NGC) Program of the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (MoEF & CC), Government of India. It is being implemented in 5500 schools of Punjab (250 schools per district) through eco-clubs. Activities taken up under NGC 2015-17 Program included:

  • Organization of workshops-cum-meetings with District Science Supervisors (DSSs)  were encouraged to celebrate environmentally important days (like World Environment Day, World Wetlands Day, International Day for Ozone Preservation, International Day for Conservation of Biodiversity, etc.) They involved Eco-Clubs in organizing awareness and action oriented activities including visits to ecologically important areas, plantation of medicinal/herbal species and their maintenance, cleanliness drives, water conservation, etc.

  • Celebration of  ‘Climate Change Awareness Week’ involving 5500 NGC schools. For this, PSCST provided financial assistance to all the districts of state to organize activities like seminars, debates, workshops, rallies, plantation & cleanliness drives, poster-making competitions and visit to Climate Change Theater at PGSC, Kapurthala.
